KASTLITE lamp post globes are built for outdoor lighting that lasts. We manufacture every globe and acorn at our facility in Clearwater, Florida, using UV-stabilized acrylic and polycarbonate. Whether you need a single outdoor lamp post globe replacement or hundreds for a commercial streetlight project, we stock the sizes, neck types, and styles to match your existing fixtures.
Lamp Post Globe Styles: Round, Acorn, and Teardrop
We carry three main lamp post globe shapes, each suited to different fixture designs and aesthetics.
Round globes are the most common replacement lamp post globe. They fit standard residential and commercial post tops and come in sizes from 6 inches to 20 inches. If your current globe is a sphere, this is what you need.
Acorn lamp post globes have a tapered top that mimics the shape of an acorn. You see them on municipal streetlights, park pathways, and historic district lampposts across the country. Our acorn globes are available from manufacturers including Lexalite and our own KASTLITE line.
Teardrop globes (sometimes called "pear" or "flame" shapes) taper to a point at the top. They're less common than rounds or acorns but still used on certain decorative post tops. If you have a teardrop fixture, contact us with your measurements and we can match it.
Lamp Post Globe Sizes: 6" Through 20"
Globe size refers to the outer diameter of the globe at its widest point. We stock eight standard sizes:
- 6 inch lamp post globes
- 8 inch lamp post globes
- 10 inch lamp post globes
- 12 inch lamp post globes
- 14 inch lamp post globes
- 16 inch lamp post globes
- 18 inch lamp post globes
- 20 inch lamp post globes
The 10 inch lamp post globe and 12 inch lamp post globe are our best sellers. Most residential post tops use one of these two sizes. Commercial and municipal fixtures tend to run 16 inches and larger.
How to Measure Your Lamp Post Globe for Replacement
Getting the right lamp post cover replacement starts with two measurements: the globe diameter and the neck opening.
Step 1: Measure the globe diameter. Wrap a flexible tape measure around the widest part of your existing globe. Divide that number by 3.14 (pi) to get the diameter. Or, if the globe is off the fixture, measure straight across the widest point with a ruler.
Step 2: Measure the neck opening. This is the hole at the bottom of the globe where it sits on the fixture. Measure the inside diameter of the opening. Common neck sizes are 3.25 inches (for 6" globes), 4 inches (for 8" and 10" globes), 5.25 inches (for 12" globes), and 6 inches (for larger globes).
Step 3: Identify the neck type. Look at how your globe attaches to the post. This determines whether you need a fitter neck globe, twist lock globe, screw neck, or neckless globe (more on neck types below).
If you're not sure about your measurements, take a photo of the broken globe next to a ruler and email it to us. We've matched thousands of lamp post top replacements this way.
Globe Neck Types: Fitter, Twist Lock, Neckless, and Screw
The globe neck is the collar at the bottom that connects the globe to your lamp post fixture. Choosing the wrong neck type means the globe won't mount correctly. Here are the four types we carry:
Fitter neck globes have a straight, smooth collar that slides into the fixture holder and is secured with set screws. This is the most common neck type for residential post tops. Standard fitter sizes are 3.25", 4", 5.25", and 6".
Twist lock globes use a bayonet-style mount. You insert the globe and rotate it a quarter turn to lock it in place. Twist lock necks are popular on commercial streetlights because they resist vibration and wind better than fitter necks.
Neckless globes have no collar at all. Instead, the globe sits in a ring or cradle holder on the fixture. These are common on older decorative lamp posts. The globe opening is typically larger than fitter or twist lock types.
Screw neck globes have threaded collars that screw directly into the fixture socket. They're less common on post tops but standard on some wall-mount and pendant fixtures.
Materials: Acrylic vs. Polycarbonate Lamp Post Globes
We manufacture lamp post globes in two materials, each with different strengths.
Acrylic lamp post globes offer the best optical clarity. They transmit about 92% of visible light, so your lamp puts out maximum brightness. Acrylic resists UV yellowing for years and maintains a clean, glass-like appearance. It is lighter than glass and far more impact-resistant. Most residential and decorative applications use acrylic.
Polycarbonate globes are roughly 200 times more impact-resistant than glass. If your installation faces vandalism, falling branches, or extreme weather, polycarbonate is the better pick. It does yellow faster than acrylic in direct sunlight, so we recommend our UV-stabilized polycarbonate for outdoor use. Municipal and high-traffic commercial sites often specify polycarbonate for durability.
Both materials are significantly lighter than glass, which makes installation easier and reduces the risk of breakage during shipping.
